TMJ

LEARN ABOUT YOUR PAIN, UNDERSTAND HOW YOU INJURED YOUR BODY, AND DISCOVER HOW OUR OFFICE CAN HELP.
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain typically stems from one of three sources: a bite disorder, postural dysfunction, or muscular spasms. The latter can result from dental work, motor vehicle accidents, stress, or other physical demands. In all cases, physical therapy for TMJ can be highly effective. While addressing the bite disorder is often necessary, a hands-on approach combined with targeted exercises can significantly improve jaw movement.

Our approach to TMJ pain takes a comprehensive upper quadrant philosophy, focusing on the trunk, shoulders, head, and neck. We prioritize posture and muscle balance, while also addressing fascia restrictions.

LEARN HOW OUR OFFICE CAN HELP YOUR INJURY:
In our office, we take a hands-on approach to TMJ treatment, first addressing fascial restrictions and then resolving muscular imbalances. This allows us to implement specific exercises and, when needed, use our multi-cervical strengthening computerized equipment. In many cases, this hands-on approach can significantly restore jaw movement and reduce pain.

LEARN HOW YOU CAN PREVENT FUTURE INJURIES:
Preventing future TMJ pain often requires an appropriate night splint, a home exercise program, and occasional hands-on follow-up treatments. In most cases, TMJ is a one-time issue that can be successfully treated, particularly when the patient is motivated to maintain good muscle balance.
